Middle School Civics Bee Championships

On March 12, 2025, California held its inaugural National Civics Bee competition in the state of California at the Nixon Library. Twenty (20) students were invited to compete in the live, two-part competition. Participants were quizzed on civics questions as well as presented a summary of their civics projects to a panel of judges.

OPA is proud to announce that Krishna G., from OPA-Middle School, placed third in the competition and will advance to the Finals in June. There, she will compete for a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the National Championship and a chance to win the grand prize of $100,000.

Civic Engagement is a core competency of the OPA Champion Profile. Through our curriculum, Champions engage in activities that promote a deeper understanding of the economics, geography, history, principles, and foundations of our American democracy. Through this, they develop awareness of local and global issues and aim to improve society through service and activism.
